Design & Build Quality
- Very sturdy, body is made entirely out of metal, except for buttons and knob which are made out of plastic
Bluetooth
- Nothing much to say except everything works as expected.
- Pairing is very straightforward and easy.
- Latency is definitely good enough for watching content and listening to music, but not quite sure about gaming.
- Unfortunately, it lacks the support for LDAC but it still has other hi-res alternatives like aptX HD.
Sound & Drivability
Sound
- Sounds mostly clean and neutral to my ears, with adequate note weight, generally smooth treble and have good dynamics
Drivability
- Very good power, it drove my HD600 and Sundara with ease, with even some headroom to spare.
Others
- From my testing with my MA Audio Marquis, which is a highly sensitive to noise and impedance, I am able to conclude that:
- The K7 have nearly 0 ohm impedance, which is also further confirmed by a staff member by Fosi Audio
- The K7 is able to drive highly sensitive IEMs with minimal noise floor, which my extremely sensitive Marquis have 0 background noise.
Other Features
EQ
EJ07M (0 to +12 bass adjustments, 3 step)
EJ07M (-6 to +6 treble adjustments, 3 step)
EJ07M ( -12 to 0 bass decrease, 6 step)
- The EQ feature can be adjusted through the knob but only not in bypass mode, bypass mode means that it will ignore EQ completely.
- As seen from the graphs above, it basically shifts the whole tonal balance, which I believe is simple and effective enough for most.
- Both bass and treble adjustments are in used simultaneously
- Each step is about 1-2db difference, which is enough for fine tuning.
- Personally would prefer an in-built parametric EQ feature like most of the modern dongles, but that might not be as user friendly.
Microphone
- Microphone can only used in UAC 1.0 mode.
- It works fine, did not have any trouble using from lowest gain to highest gain.
Volume Control
- 1 click on the knob increases/decreases volume by mostly 2-3 steps, sometimes 1 step.
- I find this to be random, and it should only be 1 step, otherwise the 62 volume steps are only semi-functional.
- I genuinely hope this can be patched in the near future as I find fine tuning volumes to be a pain on the K7.
Conclusion
- Overall, my experience with the Fosi Audio K7 is overwhelming positive, as I think it is a solid contender for being one of the absolute best mid tier all in one solution for desktop setups.
- Packed with simple yet effective features, versatile enough for open backs and IEMs, has microphone and bluetooth connectivity, and it sounds greats.
- However, there are several nitpicks throughout the review like the volume steps and the lack of PEQ, which I believe are not serious enough to be a deal breaker but might be a bit annoying, at least that will be the case for myself. In the end, it will be up to you to decide.
