Ear tips used
  • Whizzer SS20

Drivability
  • Easy to drive.
  • Any decent, modern dongle DAC/Amp should be more than sufficient.

    • Juzear x Flare Stock Cable (6N SPOCC+SCCW Cable) with Interchangeable Connectors
      • Actually pretty usable cable, easy to manage and not too thick or thin
      • One minor complain is doesn't sit on my ears super well, but I would say it's good enough that it doesn't cause any major problem.

    Build Quality
    • Average but feels sturdy enough, classic full resin build with metal nozzle.

    Fit
    • They are a little on the larger and bulkier side but I don't have any issue with fit at all even with longer period of usage.

    Tonality

    • Mild V shaped

    Bass
    • Sub-bass focused with good, deep rumble and solid impact.
    • Has good physicality and slam, with decent texture.
    • However, it lacks a bit of control and speed, where the decay and reverb is slightly longer than I would like, hence not sounding as snappy.

    Midrange
    • Lower Midrange
      • Slightly warm and is natural.
      • Well-bodied and smooth without sounding muddy or bloated.
      • Maintains good note weight even though is a bit recessed.
    • Upper Midrange
      • Slightly recessed but is very smooth.
      • Vocals are not forward but not exactly drowned either, just slightly relaxed

    Treble
    • Overall sparkly and energetic but not over the top
    • Well extended and airy without affecting the timbre too much
    • However, it can bit a tad bit splashy and grainy, but not really to the point of being sharp.

    Technicalities/Others
    • Decent detail retrieval for the price.

    • Enough width and depth in terms of staging to not feel cramped but nothing to write home about.

    • Imaging is more on the 2D to 2.5D side than 3D but accuracy is quite decent.

    • Decent overall separation and layering but may not be suitable for overly fast tracks due to sluggish bass.

    • Timbre is overall quite natural.

    Conclusion
    • Overall, I think the Juzear x Z Reviews Defiant is actually a very solid offering at the price of just under $100.
    • It boasts a very versatile mild V shaped signature with a nice, fun elevation on the bass and treble without sacrificing the midrange performance too much, while having decent technicalities to back this tonality up, making it a decent pickup for under $100, which includes the very decent cable as well.
    • However, it does have some flaws and nitpicks here and there, such as bass speed, but they are still acceptable considering the price.
